THEATRE BY THE SEA'S CERES STREET FAIR TO BE HELD AUGUST 1 PORTSMOUTH Theatre by the Sea's annual street fair, a popular summer attraction for over a decade, will be held Saturday, fro August 1 from 10 AM to 6 PM along picturesque Ceres Street on the Portsmouth waterfront.

The day-long fair, with a turn-of-thecentury carnival motif, features the display and sale of the work of nearly 150 artists and craftspeople, continual free performances in the street, and activities and games expressly for young people.

Ceres Street, which is closed to traffic during the day, will be lined with booths from end to end of visual arts and handcrafted items by artisans from New England and as far away as Connecticut and Vermont. They will display and demonstrate their creations which encompass hand-wrought jewelry of scrimshaw, gold, silver and precious stones, leather articles, stained and leaded glass, macrame items, pottery and porcelain, ironwork, weavings, woodcarvings, and handmade toys, furniture, clothing and decorative accessories.

Visual arts, including oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, silk-screen, photography, etchings and the like will also be on display. Unusual items such as handmade kites, whistles, origami paper sculptures and musical instruments will be available as well.

Free performances, from 11 AM to 5 PM will be scheduled at hourly intervals.

Several games for young people will be available and Theatre by the Sea's staff and the cast from the summer Prescott Park production of Annie Get Your Gun will participate in the now traditional face painting booth, creating full face make-up and temporary tattoos, TBS' Board of Trustees and Guild members will also sponsor various plant, book, collectibles and refreshment booths.
